The Richmond Fellowship of Hong Kong (“Richmond”) has been providing comprehensive community-based mental health services for persons with mental disabilities and the local community since 1984. 15 volunteers from The Incorporated Owners of Yuen Long Tin Shing Court (“Tin Shing”) had a joyful and meaningful afternoon with the ex-mentally ill from Richmond on 25 February 2012. Working closely together as a team, they were able to establish a better understanding and mutual respect for each other.

The Ting Shing volunteers demonstrated the procedures to make lucky charms.

The lucky charm is made in the shape of the Chinese character “” (which means happiness) “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. Let’s share our happiness and care with the needy to build a harmonious community!

Volunteers from both Tin Shing and Richmond visited a retirement home and chitchatted with the elderly.

Every elderly received a festive lucky charm made by the volunteers.

After visiting the elderly home, Tin Shing volunteers arrived at the Richmond Health Farm managed by the ex-mentally ill.

Visitors were impressed by the various types of Chinese herbs and organic vegetables planted in the farm. The farm promotes diet therapy to maintain physical and mental health as well as to enhance the bonding between ex-mentally ill and other sectors in the community.

Time to have a break! Chinese desserts were prepared by the social worker.

“Nom~Nom~Nom~”. The delicious desserts were gone within minutes!

Such a fruitful day! The Tin Shing volunteers had learnt much about organic farming and Chinese herbs. Most important of all, they had a better understanding of the ex-mentally ill.
