The Story of the Pagoda

Most of you will recognize this red tower, or the pagoda as the symbol of The Community Chest. But do you know the meaning behind the pagoda?

In ancient Chinese legend, the pagoda adhered the holy spirits that protected its people. Later on, the multi-
leveled pagoda came to symbolise the accumulation of wealth and blessings.

The building of a pagoda cannot be done by one person alone, but requires the concerted efforts of many people. By adopting this symbol as its logo, The Chest hopes to appeal for public support. By building a pagoda out of many grains of sand, every member of the community can be involved to bring forth hope for the needy.

Over the past 40 years, this symbol has witnessed and withstood the many changes in Hong Kong. It is the emblem of Hong Kong’s concern for the wellbeing of all its citizens.
