Previously, we mentioned that the Chest’s current office is provided by The Hong Kong Jockey Club at a nominal charge of one dollar. So what accounts for the Chest’s administrative expenses? How much of the donations can really reach those in need?
Well, the administrative cost of The Community Chest is subsidised by a generous annual grant from The Hong Kong Jockey Club and returns from our prudent investment, while campaign expenses are sponsored by corporations. Therefore, the Chest can assure donors that 100% of funds gathered are allocated to our beneficiaries without any deduction of administrative expenses.
Every dollar that you donate will be distributed prudently to local social welfare agencies to strengthen and maximise their services to the needy. Through our 148 member agencies, who provide over 2,370 services and programmes, over 1.7 million people benefit from your generosity each year. Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life, including the elderly, children and youths, the physically and mentally handicapped, abused spouses, street sleepers, the chronically ill, the unemployed, low income families, ex-offenders, ex-substance abusers, people in rehabilitation, etc.
