A helping hand in a time of need
Behind the glamour and prosperity, there are still many who struggle every day for survival in Hong Kong. To them, each day is a day without hope. Who can they turn to in times of difficulty?
An emergency relief fund was initiated by the Chest in early 2004 to provide rapid responses to individuals and families who find themselves in an emergency financial crisis for which other sources of help may not be available.
The Community Chest Rainbow Fund focuses on helping:
- individuals and families with imminent needs - threat to survival; or
- individuals and families with imminent needs - otherwise causing irreversible damage and social consequences;
- the marginalised in society, and those who may be caught between gaps.
Over the past six years, with the support of the Chest's 74 assessment centres throughout the territories, The Community Chest Rainbow Fund has offered timely assistance to 23,000 people in need with a total of more than 36 million dollars.
